Motorist Advice

  • Don't get a ticket for making a typo

The aim of the “Get Your Reg Right” campaign is threefold:

1: to educate motorists about the importance of typographical accuracy

2: to encourage local authority and private parking operators to be more sympathetic when motorists make trivial or minor typographical errors

3: to encourage parking technology manufacturers and service providers to devise more user-friendly technology

  • What do I do if the parking payment or registration machine is not working and I can’t input my vehicle registration?

You should contact the parking operator immediately and notify them of the problem and follow their instructions. The parking operator’s contact details will be on the parking payment or registration machine or on signage nearby and throughout the car park.

If you are unable to contact the parking operator and cannot find an alternative payment method such as a mobile phone app, you should leave the car park immediately. You never just park and leave your vehicle as this may well result in a parking ticket

  • I think I have input the wrong vehicle registration number. What should I do?

If you have paid for your parking, then keep your ticket as proof that you have paid. Contact the parking operator and immediately tell them of your error. The parking operator’s contact details will be on the car park signage.
